Books never lose their value, no matter what the times. Nowadays, without books and libraries, it is impossible for a person to develop successfully. Libraries around the world are centres of knowledge and culture, places of new ideas and opinions. Despite the rapid development of electronic learning formats, the possibilities of the Internet, smartphones and other gadgets, the educational role of traditional libraries never loses its significance.

KazNMU named after S.D. Asfendiyarov has a well-equipped modern library with a large book collection. However, it would be convenient for students living in dormitories to have a small reading room in the dormitory where they could read fiction, popular science and educational literature and discuss it with friends.

The social and living conditions of students in the dormitory are kept under constant control by the university administration. The university and school administration provides all the necessary conditions for a comfortable stay for students and a high level of service.

In the spring, a library was opened in dormitory No. 4 of the School of Pharmacy of the S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University. The library’s collection includes more than 600 books in Kazakh and Russian, collected by teachers and staff of the School of Pharmacy. For the convenience of students, they are grouped and placed on shelves according to their content: educational, scientific, fiction, literature on pharmacy and business. There is Wi-Fi access. The library has a small reading room. You can read literature and discuss it with friends. You can take books to read in your room, after signing up in the journal.

For the 135th anniversary of the birth of S.D. Asfendiyarov, teachers and staff of the School of Pharmacy departments collected an additional 250 books and added them to the student library’s collection. An exhibition was organised dedicated to the outstanding son of the Kazakh people, whose name is borne by the country’s leading medical university. Students from the dormitory were happy to take part in the event. They learned a lot of new and interesting things about the life and work of S.D. Asfendiyarov.

Sanzhar Asfendiyarov is a man who left an indelible mark on the history of Kazakhstan. He was a military doctor, statesman (Public Commissioner of the AKSR for Health Care in Turkestan, Public Commissioner for Health Care in the Republic of Kazakhstan), scientist,

and is considered one of the founders of the Kazakh Academy of Sciences. At a time when Kazakhstan was experiencing a shortage of scientists, specialists and educated people, Sanzhar Asfendiyarov immersed himself in scientific work and devoted himself to medicine, science, education, politics and organisational work.

On 20 October, the library in dormitory No. 4 was replenished. The library was replenished with educational, popular science and fiction literature in Kazakh and Russian. Among the educational literature, there were many textbooks and books published by teachers of the S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University.
