By the decision of the Government of the Kazakh SSR in 1951, the Kazakh State Medical Institute organized a pharmaceutical faculty, which, proceeding from the needs of practical pharmacy of the republic, was to provide continuous targeted training of personnel with higher pharmaceutical education. A prerequisite for this decision was the functioning of 432 pharmacies and 1552 pharmacy points, several small pharmaceutical industries and pharmaceutical departments of medical schools that were in desperate need of pharmacists with higher education.

Pharmacist (the Greek word “pharmakeutes” preparing medicinal drugs, medicines) is a specialist with a higher or secondary pharmaceutical education who has the right to engage in pharmaceutical activities.

According to the WHO classification (1978), the specialty of the pharmacist is assigned to persons who have received higher education in the pharmaceutical faculties of universities and in pharmaceutical schools. The main goal of the University’s pharmaceutical faculty is to train specialists with higher pharmaceutical education to work in the field of pharmaceutical practice and science.
