Tinctures as Dosage Forms: Lecture for 4th-year School of Pharmacy Students

On March 20, 2026, at the Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, as part of the production internship for 4th-year students of the School of Pharmacy, lecturer Moldir Alibekovna Zhandabayeva conducted a lecture on the topic: “Tinctures as Dosage Forms: Technological Stages and Features of Production.”

During the session, the characteristics of tinctures as liquid dosage forms, their classification, and their significance in modern pharmaceutical manufacturing were reviewed in detail. Particular emphasis was placed on the theoretical foundations of extracting bioactive compounds from medicinal plant materials and the principles of selecting appropriate extractants.

Students were introduced to the primary technological methods of tincture production: maceration, percolation, and their various modifications. The principles of operating industrial equipment to ensure maximum yield of active ingredients and methods for intensifying technological processes were discussed.

The lecture covered the technological stages in accordance with production regulations: from raw material preparation to extraction, purification, standardization, and packaging. The lecturer focused on methods for purifying extracts from ballast substances and the conditions required to ensure product stability.

A separate section of the session was dedicated to the quality control of finished tinctures. The requirements of the State Pharmacopoeia regarding organoleptic characteristics, ethanol content, dry residue, and heavy metal testing were examined.

The session contributed to deepening the professional competencies of future pharmacists in the field of galenic preparation technology and fostered an understanding of the importance of maintaining technological discipline within industrial pharmaceutical production.
