The Department of Organization, Management and Economics of Pharmacy and Clinical Pharmacy of the School of Pharmacy at Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University is a leading academic and research center that integrates professional traditions, modern technologies, and innovative approaches in the development of pharmaceutical science.

The mission of the department is to train competent, creative, and competitive specialists capable of working effectively in the pharmaceutical sector, implementing scientific developments, managerial and marketing technologies, and advancing clinical pharmacy within Kazakhstan’s healthcare system.

Research and Educational Mission

Research activity is an integral part of the educational process and a key direction of the department’s work.

It aims to develop the scientific potential of future researchers, teachers, and practitioners by fostering analytical thinking, creativity, and a culture of inquiry.

Faculty members actively involve undergraduate, master’s and PhD learners in research projects, ensuring generational continuity and supporting the development of scientific schools in pharmacy, pharmaceutical economics, management, and marketing.

Main Research Areas

The department’s research covers a wide range of topics aligned with national priorities for the development of pharmacy and healthcare in Kazakhstan, including:

•⠀organization and management of pharmaceutical activities in accordance with international GxP standards;
•⠀regulatory and legal aspects of pharmaceutical practice and circulation of medicines and medical devices;
•⠀development of pharmacoeconomics, pricing, reimbursement, and insurance systems within the Compulsory Social Health Insurance (CSHI) framework;
•⠀marketing research of the pharmaceutical market, consumer demand and needs analysis;
•⠀clinical pharmacy and pharmacovigilance – studies on pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, safety, and rational use of medicines;
•⠀pharmacoepidemiological and pharmacoeconomic studies of domestic pharmaceuticals and phytosubstances;
•⠀social and professional-ethical aspects of pharmaceutical activity and the development of professional self-governance;
•⠀development of clinical pharmacist competencies aligned with personalized pharmaceutical care.

International Cooperation and Research Projects

The department actively develops international and inter-university scientific collaboration with research centers and industrial partners.

Faculty members lead and participate in projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Science Fund, and international programs.

Over the past few years, more than twenty fundamental and applied projects have been implemented, aimed at advancing pharmaceutical science, promoting innovation, and digitalizing the pharmaceutical sector.

Publication and Innovation Activity

The department demonstrates strong scientific potential through its high level of publication activity and participation in international scientific forums.

In the past five years, faculty members have published over 300 scientific works, including more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals indexed by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan (COQASHES MSHE RK), as well as in Scopus and Web of Science databases.

Research results are implemented into the educational process, teaching materials, dissertations, and textbooks, improving the quality of pharmaceutical education and practice.

Innovation Projects and Scientific Schools

A key priority of the department is transforming scientific ideas into practical solutions for implementation in pharmaceutical production and healthcare.

The department develops innovative projects ranging from the creation of plant-based pharmaceutical substances and synbiotic complexes to the introduction of digital pharmacy management systems.

It supports youth research initiatives, promotes commercialization of scientific results, and applies TRL (Technology Readiness Levels) approaches in applied research planning.
