Especially fruitful is the cooperation of the department with the following organizations:
- “Karaganda Pharmaceutical Complex” LLP (KPC) – one of the largest pharmaceutical production facilities in Kazakhstan, producing biotechnological preparations, the only plant in the country producing biosimilars. It has become a tradition for the best students to undergo educational and industrial practice at KPC, specializing in biotechnology.
A good example of the success of biotechnology is the drugs created by genetic engineering methods. The creation of such drugs begins with the recognition of a section of human DNA responsible for the synthesis of the desired protein. It is cut out and inserted into the DNA of a living bacterium (e.g., E. coli or a yeast cell). As a result, the bacterium begins to produce the desired protein molecules. Drugs produced in this way are called recombinant drugs. They are high molecular weight compounds and have a complex three-dimensional spatial structure.
A biosimilar is a biotechnologically reproduced medicinal product similar to the original biotechnological medicinal product and submitted for registration after the patent of the original medicinal product has expired.
In the manufacture of biosimilars, great importance is attached to quality control at all stages of production. KFK has one of the best quality control systems among pharmaceutical companies in Kazakhstan, including biochemical, physicochemical, microbiological laboratories.
KPC specializes in the production of immunobiological, biopharmaceutical, as well as pharmaceuticals. This specificity of production is innovative and has no analogues in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
- 2. Research Institute of Biological Safety Problems. NIIPBB has more than 60 years of history. The Institute is engaged in the development of means and methods of threat detection, biological safety assessment and production of diagnostic and prophylactic preparations, including those against dangerous and especially dangerous viral diseases of humans, animals and birds. The Institute has accumulated vast experience in biological security, biotechnology, virology, microbiology, and immunology.
The Institute’s scientists have developed and introduced more than 70 preparations, including 30 vaccines, 29 test systems and more than 15 different biopreparations. Annually, 27 million doses of various vaccines are produced.
In 2021 the State Prize in the field of science and technology named after Al-Farabi for 2021 was awarded to 7 scientists of NIIPBB, authors of the developed vaccine QazVac for the cycle of works on the theme “Ensuring biological safety of the Republic of Kazakhstan: advanced scientific technologies and production”.
3 QazBioPharm
A national holding company engaged in research and development in the field of biotechnology.
QazBioPharm Holding was established in July 2022 with 100% state participation in the authorized capital, the right to own and use the shareholding is held by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The main activities of QazBioPharm are:
– organization and management of subsidiary organizations operating in the
the sphere of biotechnologies;
– research and development in the field of biotechnology;
– research and development in the field of anti-infective drugs;
– production of pharmaceuticals;
– production of pharmaceuticals for veterinary medicine;
– realization of pharmaceuticals.
QazBioPharm conducts activities to ensure:
– biosafety;
– improvement of biopharmaceutical market infrastructure;
– stimulating the development of biopharmaceutical science and industry;
– the needs of the state and society in biopharmaceutical products.
QazBioPharm carries out management interaction on biosafety issues between different departments and subsidiary organizations.

4 Kaz-Dia-Test LLP
This is the first production of medical products of such scale and high technological level in Kazakhstan, built according to international GMP standards. It is organized through technology transfer with the participation of partners from Russia, China, USA, Israel. The production structure of Kaz-Dia-Test LLP is divided into 4 main production shops, each of which has its own technological orientation and class of cleanliness of premises.
In the first shop it is planned to produce express-tests based on immunochromatographic method for diagnostics of various diseases: oncological, urogenital diseases, respiratory infections and others.
The second workshop will also produce a wide range of test systems based on PCR method, including PCR diagnostics for target diagnostics of oncologic diseases. It should be noted that this shop has purity class “B”. This is a purity class, the organization of which requires special conditions, both in terms of design, and in terms of operation and maintenance of premises with equipment, as well as the qualification of personnel.
In the third workshop it is planned to produce a wide range of test systems for ELISA diagnostics. It is planned to produce about 100 items of products for diagnostics.
The fourth workshop will produce disposable Petri dishes with ready nutrient media. It should be especially emphasized that in the whole world there are only 4 production sites where disposable Petri dishes with ready nutrient media are produced and one of them is now located in Kazakhstan.
The plant is equipped with a special laboratory of biotechnological control, which controls the quality of products at each stage of production. The laboratory is equipped with all necessary equipment. It has a permit to work with pathogens of various groups and work with helminths. And, of course, there are highly qualified personnel working here.
- TOO “OTARBIOPHARM”
The first large biopharmaceutical plant of full cycle in the Republic of Kazakhstan. It is a part of the joint-stock company National chrolding “QAZBIOPHARM”.
