Classification of Premises. Cleanrooms: Lecture for 4th-year School of Pharmacy Students

On March 26, 2026, at the Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, as part of the production internship for 4th-year students of the School of Pharmacy, lecturer Roza Bagdauletovna Ayupova conducted a lecture on the topic: “Classification of Premises. Cleanrooms. Rules of Conduct in Cleanrooms.”

During the session, international and national standards for the classification of production zones (GMP, ISO) were reviewed in detail. Particular emphasis was placed on the concept of “cleanrooms,” their design, and their role in ensuring the sterility and high quality of medicinal products.

Students were introduced to the requirements for cleanliness classes (A, B, C, D), air filtration systems (HEPA filters), and the maintenance of pressure differentials. Engineering and technical solutions aimed at minimizing the risk of product contamination by mechanical particles and microorganisms were discussed.

The lecture covered the rules of personnel conduct in clean zones in detail. R.B. Ayupova focused on strict adherence to personal hygiene, the procedure for changing into technological clothing, and the rules of movement within controlled areas to prevent air turbulence.

A separate section of the session was dedicated to cleanroom monitoring. Procedures for regular control of microbial contamination on surfaces and in the air were examined, along with requirements for the sanitization and disinfection of premises and equipment.

The session contributed to the development of knowledge among future pharmacists regarding the culture of sterile manufacturing and fostered an understanding of the importance of strict compliance with regulations when working in high-tech production zones.
