Research work is one of the priority areas for the formation of a unified educational space of the university, based on ensuring a close relationship between fundamental science, education and the professional environment of future specialists.
The research work of the teaching staff is in close connection with educational and methodological activities and is aimed at solving the following tasks:
- ensuring the scientific and methodological level of the content of the entire complex of disciplines and courses of the curriculum based on the latest achievements and results of theoretical and applied research;
- increasing the pedagogical skills of the teaching staff, improving the quality of student learning;
- creating conditions for students to acquire independent research experience in their chosen areas of professional activity.
The main forms of research activities of the teaching staff are:
- carrying out research work;
- preparation of scientific articles, monographs, teaching aids, scientific reports;
- scientific consulting;
- scientific examination and editing of materials being prepared for publication;
- testing of methodological provisions and their implementation in practice.
The scientific work of the department is carried out in accordance with the plan of research and development work of the department of pharmaceutical and toxicological chemistry, pharmacognosy and botany, approved for the 2023-2024 academic year.
The department is carrying out 3 scientific projects: one intra-university project, funded by KazNMU named after. S.D. Asfendiyarova “Chemical development and research of active pharmaceutical substances based on nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds”, scientific supervisor Berillo D.A. Implementation period: 2022-2024. (3 years). Two new projects were registered in 2023 on an initiative basis in KazGOSINTI (leaders: Boshkaeva A.K., Sayakova G.M.). Planned work on publishing activities is being carried out: scientific articles in the Web of science, Scopus databases, monographs.
The International Scientific and Practical Conference “Priorities of Pharmacy and Dentistry” is held annually, organized by two Schools: the School of Pharmacy and the School of Dentistry. The main speakers are universities from near and far abroad countries: St. Petersburg State Chemical and Pharmaceutical University; National Pharmaceutical University; Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute; Tashkent State Dental Institute; Kyrgyz State Medical Academy named after. I.K. Akhunbaeva; Department of Medical and Pharmaceutical Education, Personnel Policy and Science of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan; National Scientific Center for Particularly Dangerous Infections named after. M. Aikimbaeva; Medical University of Karaganda; Kazakh-Russian Medical University.

- I International Forum “Asfen.Forum, new generation-2023”, section “Pharmacy”, June 5, 2023. During the work of the “Pharmacy” section of the forum, 10 sectional reports were heard (representatives of 6 countries: Ireland, Turkey, Slovenia, Indonesia , Russia, Uzbekistan) and 19 poster reports were evaluated.
- Pitch (Commercialization Reactor), June 6, 2023: 4 departments with 5 projects took part: 3 projects from the department of pharmaceutical and toxicological chemistry, pharmacognosy and botany (Sayakova G.M., Boshkaeva A.K., Berillo D. .A.); 1 project – from the Department of Engineering Disciplines and Good Practice and 1 project from the Department of Chemistry.
Participation in the exhibition:
- January 20-21, 2023 on the basis of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The exhibition was held as part of the scientific and practical conference “Development of university science as a necessary condition for the innovative development of Kazakhstan.” The exhibition featured the developments of scientists from Kazakhstan universities. The main mission of the exhibition is to demonstrate the achievements of scientific and innovative activities of universities in order to promote the further implementation of innovative developments in production and promote the leading position of universities in the global competitive market of scientific services. The exhibition presented innovations in a variety of areas: from educational methods to industrial production. Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek visited an exhibition of inventions of Kazakh scientists. According to the minister, inventions can become an excellent platform for investment. He also called on investors to take an active part in the symbiosis of “Science and Business” and take the leading ranks of those who will influence the development of the country’s innovative economy. KazNMU named after. S.D. Asfendiyarov presented scientific developments at the exhibition as part of the scientific and practical conference “Development of university science as a necessary condition for the innovative development of Kazakhstan.” Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor of the Department of Pharmaceutical, Toxicological Chemistry, Pharmacognosy and Botany Boshkaeva A.K., demonstrated the production of pharmaceutical substances “Bromasfen” and “Bacterial penicillin acylase: technology for producing the enzyme.”

- An exhibition of scientific and innovative developments by scientists from the Department of Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Chemistry, Pharmacognosy and Botany was presented, February 14, 2023. - “Innovations in the field of biopharmacology, their legal protection and commercialization”, Round table, Astana November 25, 2022. Boshkaeva A.K.: report on the topic “Innovative approaches to the creation and production of new biopharmacological agents in the Republic of Kazakhstan.”
Currently, research work is actively underway to develop new medicines. Scientific research is carried out on the following topics:
- “Research and development of new dosage forms based on domestic medicinal plant materials: meadowsweet, edible honeysuckle”, head professor Sayakova G.M.
- “Creation of new pharmaceutical substances (antibiotics) using the enzymes penicillin acylase and cephalosporinase”, acting director. Professor Boshkaev A.K. Successful scientific work is carried out with students, undergraduates and doctoral students in the search, synthesis and research of natural medicines and semi-synthetic and synthetic drugs. Students have diplomas, certificates, and the first three prizes at university-wide conferences and symposiums.
