Industrial Practice of WKMU Students at KazNMU: Experience, Knowledge, and Professional Growth

From May 5 to May 15, 2025, within the framework of the academic mobility program, 4th-year students of the “Pharmacy” educational program at West Kazakhstan Medical University named after Marat Ospanov completed an industrial practice in the discipline “Pharmaceutical Technology 2” at the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology of the Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov. The total duration of the practice was 2 credits (60 hours).

During the internship, students attended lectures and master classes aimed at consolidating their academic knowledge and developing practical skills. Special focus was placed on modern approaches to drug manufacturing, quality control, and the organization of pharmaceutical processes in accordance with international standards.

A significant part of the training took place at the KazNMU Pharmacy Simulation Center, where students practiced professional skills in a controlled, realistic environment.

Visits to Leading Pharmaceutical Companies

To gain insight into real production environments, future pharmacists visited several major pharmaceutical enterprises:

  • LLP “Abdi Ibrahim Global Pharm”
  • LLP “Kelun-Kazpharm”
  • JSC “Scientific Center for Anti-Infectious Drugs”

At these facilities, students observed the full cycle of pharmaceutical production — from drug development to packaging and quality control. Direct interaction with industry professionals provided a better understanding of the current demands on pharmaceutical specialists and offered practical insights.

Cultural Enrichment and Medical History

In addition to professional activities, the students visited the S.Zh. Asfendiyarov Museum, where they explored the history of medical education in Kazakhstan and the contributions of the first Kazakh professor of medicine to national healthcare.

Results and Significance of the Practice

The industrial practice became an essential part of the students’ professional training, enabling them to:

  • reinforce academic knowledge through real-world application;
  • develop core competencies in pharmaceutical production;
  • gain exposure to current industry standards and technologies;
  • broaden their professional outlook and increase motivation for further development.

📌 The experience gained at KazNMU and leading pharmaceutical enterprises not only provided valuable knowledge but also became a key step in shaping highly qualified future pharmacists.
