Introduction to the Infusion Solution Production Unit: Lecture for 4th-year School of Pharmacy Students

On March 18, 2026, at the Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, as part of the production internship for 4th-year students of the School of Pharmacy, lecturer Shamshibanu Nokerbek conducted a lecture on the topic: “Introduction to the Infusion Solution Production Unit: A Case Study of the ‘Kelun – Kazpharm’ Pharmaceutical Plant.”

During the session, the structure and technical equipment of the infusion solution production unit at one of the industry’s leading enterprises were reviewed in detail. Particular emphasis was placed on automated filling lines and the specifics of large-scale production of sterile dosage forms in a modern plant environment.

Students were introduced to the full production cycle of infusion drugs: from the water treatment and solution preparation stages to sterilization, visual inspection, and final packaging. The requirements of GMP standards concerning the organization of raw material, material, and personnel flows at the “Kelun – Kazpharm” facility were discussed.

The lecture covered the technological features of production in polymer bottles and bags in detail. S. Nokerbek focused on aseptic assurance methods, solution filtration systems, and innovative thermal sterilization methods that guarantee the safety and stability of finished dosage forms.

A separate section of the session was dedicated to in-process quality control. Procedures for checking package integrity, the absence of particulate matter, and the compliance of the chemical composition of solutions with specified requirements were examined.

The session contributed to developing a practical understanding among future pharmacists regarding the scale of industrial pharmaceutical manufacturing and fostered an awareness of modern standards for producing vital medicines.
