History of the department

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and the Department of Pharmacognosy, as independent separate departments, were organized in 1953. In 1953, Associate Professor Babich Solomon Efimovich was elected head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. From 1969 to 1979, the department was headed by Ph.D., associate professor Esbolgan Tegisbaevich Tegisbaev. In 1979 E.T. Tegisbaev, by decision of the government of the Kazakh SSR, became the first director of the ASMI branch in the city of Shymkent.

From 1979 to 2008, the department was headed by Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Alimkhan Sabekovich Beisenbekov. Under his scientific leadership, research work of employees was carried out for two decades on the registered planned topic “Application of the formation reaction of polymethine dyes in the pharmaceutical analysis of drugs using physicochemical methods of determination.”

The Pharmacist-Analyst module was created in 2008. From the beginning of the module’s formation until October 2016, the “Pharmacist-Analyst” module was led by Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Rosa Amirzhanovna Omarova. Under her scientific leadership, fundamental scientific research was carried out within the framework of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Under the leadership of Omarova R.A. together with the Institute of Dentistry of KazNMU, since 2012, an annual scientific and practical conference with international participation “Priorities of Pharmacy and Dentistry – from Theory to Practice” has been held. Since September 2016, the name of the module “Pharmacist-Analyst” has been renamed to the Course of Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

Starting from October 2016, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Beisebekov Eduard Mukhamedzhanovich was appointed head of the pharmaceutical chemistry course.

The Department of Pharmacognosy was first organized in 1953. The first head of the department was pharmacist Belikov – Shtomich P.I. In 1954 there was a candidate of medical sciences, associate professor Chudinov V.V., who worked in this position for 19 years. He trained 1 candidate of pharmaceutical sciences, associate professor Z.I. Boshko. Qualified specialists worked at this department – candidate of medical sciences, associate professor Pisarev A.A. During this time, 3 of his employees defended their candidate dissertations through targeted graduate school: Dobrokhotova K.V., Mukhametgaliev A.G., Murzagaliev U.M. Associate Professor A.A. Pisarev, together with K.V. Dobrokhotova, published the book “Healing Plants Around Us” (1980) and published more than 50 scientific papers. Then he was led by Doctor of Philosophy. Nikonov G.K. During this period, 3 employees of the department defended their candidate dissertations (Bimurzaev A.A., Sinitsyna V.G., Baimukhametov M.A.). For 13 years, the department was headed by a highly qualified specialist, Ph.D., associate professor Mukhametgaliev A.G. During this period, he and his colleagues published more than 50 scientific papers, received 2 innovation certificates, and published teaching aids. From 1995 to 2001, the department was headed by Doctor of Philology. Professor M.N. Ashirmatova. During this time, 1 Doctor of Philosophy was trained. (Makhatov B.K.), 7 Ph.D. (Tokeshova L.E., Khudaybergenova A.M., etc.) and 2 Ph.D. (S.E. Supieva, I.V. Baskakova). Then the Department of Pharmacognosy was combined with the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, headed by Professor A.S. Beisenbekov. For three years, since 2008, the Department of Pharmacognosy was headed by Professor R.A. Omarova, from September 1, 2010 – Ph.D. Sayakova Galiya Myrzagalievna led the Pharmacognosy course.

The subject of toxicological chemistry, as an independent discipline, has been taught at the Faculty of Pharmacy since 1953. Until 1970, there was a forensic chemistry course at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry of the Kazakh State Medical Institute. The forensic chemistry course was taught by Georgy Dmitrievich Grachev. Since 1975, the discipline “Toxicological Chemistry” has been taught at the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Pharmacy. In 1977, the Department of Chemistry of Pharmaceutical Disciplines was reorganized into the Department of Toxicological and Analytical Chemistry, headed by Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Kenes Ushbaevich Ushbaev. Worked at the Department of Toxicological Chemistry: Associate Professor Ph.D. Tegisbaev Esbolgan Tegisbaevich, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences Professor Baizoldanov Tolegen Baizoldanovich, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Bisembaev Edward Mukhamedzhanovich, Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Shopabaeva Alma Rakhimbaevna, Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Associate Professor Dauletbakova Fauzia Dosmukhamedovna.

The module “Pharmacist-Toxicologist” was formed in 2011 after the transformation of some departments of the Faculty of Pharmacy. In the period from 2011 to 2013, the head of the module was Professor Baizoldanov Tolegen Baizoldanovich. In 2013, basic chemical disciplines were added to the module: inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, physical and colloidal chemistry. 2013-2014 led the module, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Ospanova Feruza Erkebekovna and Ph.D. Balpanova Didara Tleulesovna. In 2014-2016, the module was led by candidate of chemical sciences, associate professor Asel Seydakhmetovna Kozhamzharova. In 2016, from September 1, the “Pharmacist-Toxicologist” module was transformed into a course of chemical and toxicological disciplines.

According to the order of the rector of KazNMU named after. S.D. Asfendiyarov No. 496 dated September 12, 2017, the courses of pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy and chemical-toxicological disciplines, previously part of the department of pharmaceutical disciplines, were merged into the department of chemical-pharmaceutical disciplines, headed by the head of the department, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Associate Professor Boshkaeva A. TO.

From 2019 to 2021, the department was headed by PhD, Associate Professor Berillo D.A.

From October 2021 to March 2023, the department of pharmaceutical and toxicological chemistry, pharmacognosy and botany was headed by PhD, associate professor Zhumashova G.T.

From March 2023 to present, acting head of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Chemistry, Pharmacognosy and Botany Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor Akhelova A.L.
