WHERE RESEARCH MEETS PRACTICE

Preparing future pharmaceutical manufacturing specialists

Integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experience is essential to developing the professional competencies of future specialists. In October 2026, second-year students from nine groups on the Pharmaceutical Production Technology programme at the School of Pharmacy, Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, visited the Centre for Pharmacy and Pharmacology. Separate visits took place for each group according to the approved schedule as part of their Introduction to Pharmaceutical Manufacturing practical training.

During the visits, held in the B. Atchabarov Research Institute building, Liliya Nikolayevna Ibragimova, Head of the Centre, introduced students to its activities and laboratory facilities. Particular attention was given to product formulation and manufacturing technology development, quality assessment and the practical application of research findings. These discussions helped students understand the connections between stages of pharmaceutical product development and the importance of scientific evidence and professional responsibility.

  1. O. Minbayev, Head of the Scientific and Practical Control and Analytical Laboratory of Chemistry and Pharmacognosy, explained the purpose and use of laboratory equipment. He introduced his scientific and educational publications and shared advice drawn from his professional and personal experience. This mentoring discussion complemented the laboratory introduction by highlighting the value of scientific enquiry, integrity in learning and responsibility towards one’s chosen profession.

Students were also introduced to the content of a pharmacopoeia, its place in pharmaceutical quality assurance and the basic principles of developing pharmacopoeial monographs. Learning about this official collection of standards, which sets out quality requirements and testing methods for medicines, demonstrated how pharmaceutical quality is connected to research, analytical methods and regulatory requirements.

Within the Department of Engineering Disciplines and Good Practices, the practical training was conducted under the leadership of its Head, K. K. Kozhanova, coordinated by A. K. Ibadullayeva and supervised by A. K. Baidullayeva.

The department thanks Liliya Nikolayevna Ibragimova, B. O. Minbayev and the centre’s staff for introducing students to their work and sharing their professional experience. Exposure to the laboratory environment and direct discussions with specialists complemented students’ theoretical preparation and encouraged their interest in research.
