Practice-Oriented Training for Students of the Pharmacy Educational Program

From September 21 to 24, 2026, students of the Pharmacy educational program at Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University participated in a series of practice-oriented training sessions within the framework of pharmaceutical care.

As part of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 17), “Partnerships for the Goals,” the event was co-organized by Inkar, ProMedicas, Haleon, Aristo Pharma, Sandoz, Medservice, AstraZeneca, Geropharm, and Sona-Pharm Mix. The training sessions were moderated by Talgat Alimzhanov, a trainer from Inkar, and Arailym Mukanova, PhD, Associate Professor without academic title at the Department of Organization, Management and Economics of Pharmacy and Clinical Pharmacy.

The training covered current issues related to the topics “Rational Therapy of Acute Respiratory Viral Infections and Influenza: From the First Symptoms to Recovery” and “Autumn Exacerbation of Gastrointestinal Diseases: Protecting the Stomach During the Season of Stress and Dietary Changes.” Particular attention was paid to the principles of rational and safe use of medicines, disease prevention, and the pharmacist’s role in providing professional counseling to the public.

Meetings with representatives of pharmaceutical companies enabled students to broaden their knowledge of the range of medicinal products available on the pharmaceutical market of the Republic of Kazakhstan and to gain a practice-oriented understanding of the activities of pharmaceutical companies.

During the meetings, students developed skills in professional communication, pharmaceutical counseling, and the sale of pharmaceutical products. They learned how to identify consumers’ needs, clearly and convincingly present the benefits of medicinal products, handle objections, and interact effectively with customers. Thus, the knowledge and practical skills acquired during the training are important for students’ professional development, including their preparation for the independent examination conducted as part of the final assessment.
